Good start to BWPL 2012

Posted by Porty WP on Sunday, September 2, 2012, In : BWPL
Portobello travelled to Bristol this weekend to compete in the first BWPL weekend of the 2012 season. First up Portobello were up against Penguin and the Edinburgh boys held their own with a good win bagging 15 goals to Penguin's 12.

Porty then faced Cheltenham and were unfortunately defeated by 7 goals to 12, although the scoreline does not really reflect the way Portobello played. In reality the game was much more closely fought.

Last up were Invicta, and Porty's solid defence allowed them to...

Porty in 'Super 5's'

Posted by Porty WP on Sunday, October 16, 2011, In : BWPL
Porty travelled to Loughborough this weekend to play their final two matches in Phase 1 of the BWPL. Cheltenham continued their unbeaten run winning 18 - 9, and they are certainly a force to be reckoned with this season. Porty won comfortably against Invicta beating them 14 - 9. Porty therefore finish in 3rd place at the end of Phase 1, Division 1, a great result!

We are at the point of the season where the points are reset and the leagues split into 'the Super 5's', Championships 1,2,3 & 4 (c...

What a start to BWPL 2011!

Posted by Porty WP on Saturday, September 3, 2011, In : BWPL
Porty have made the best possible start to their BWPL campaign beating both Rotherham and Bristol today.

Rotherham were put to the sword with ruthless efficiency even after going down 0 - 3 within the first 3 minutes and the retirement of 'the wall' (Simon Fuste) midway through the 2nd quarter with bad cramp. Bojan replaced Simon between the sticks and played a fantastic game. Porty were also on striking form up-front and sailed to an impressive 15 - 9 victory, with Tom Crammond putting the fi...

All divisions in the British Water Polo League will comprise eight teams at the start of the 2011 season.

The biggest impact of this change will be felt in men’s Division One, where only the leading seven this year retain a place at the highest level.

Welsh Wanderers and Sutton & Cheam, who finished ninth and tenth, have been relegated. Invicta, who were eighth, now face a play-off against the Division Two champions, City of Sheffield, to determine ...

BWPL Update

Posted by Alan Anderson (Coach) on Monday, December 20, 2010, In : BWPL
Delighted to say Portobello senior team retained Division One status for next season by drawing with Invicta 7-7 and beating Welsh Wanderers 12-7 in the last weekend of the British water polo league at Bath.  This is a great achievement for the club and we are now officially the 7th best team in Great Britain in 2010.  This also means we have qualified for the British Championship in Feb 2011.  Re-structuring of the leagues for 2011 meant that anything lower than 7th and we would have been in...
