Portobello 17 –v- Dunfermline 14 -  Sun 10th March 2013 1830hrs RCP

Tonight (Sun 10th March 2013) saw the first match of the newly formed Portobello ASC Senior Ladies Water Polo Team.

Portobello fielded 13 players, 2 of whom were from the Junior squad (Carys Hardy & Bethany Livingstone).

Team Captain,  Vic Witko was delighted with the performance of the team and the effort put in by all the players.

Portobello started strong playing with a very experienced and motivated first 7.

By the end of the second period Portobello were able to begin rotating players and give some top level experience to some of their new and junior players.

Dunfermline fought back and by the 4th period were starting to command the game.

Portobello had to dig deep, remain composed and hold on to win the game with some exciting last minute action.

A real crowd pleaser at the Commie Pool.

Coach, Roddy Hardy was delighted with the result.  There were goals from all areas of play and the team spirit was fantastic.  Mairi Japp took on the responsibility of going in goals and had a great game – Thanks Mairi!

Worst news for GB men's water polo

November 26, 2012

The news the British water polo community has dreaded for months is now out – funding is set to be withdrawn from the men’s programme.

Porty slow out of the blocks

September 30, 2012
Portobello travelled to Sheffield this weekend to play their next 2 matches in the BWPL Division 1 matches. They would face Manchester on Saturday followed by Lancaster on Sunday.

It was a poor start for Porty against Manchester, going down 5 - 1 in the first period due to several counter attacks from the English side. Porty then went on to win the final three quarters and they were level pegging midway through the 4th. But Manchester took the win 11 goals to Porty's 10.

Porty then faced Cheltenham and were unfortunately defeated by 7 goals to 12, although the scoreline does not really reflect the way Portobello played. In reality the game was much more closely fought.
