Under 18's notch up 5 wins out of 5!

Posted by Portobello ASC on Saturday, June 13, 2015, In : 98+
The Porty U18's had a convincing win at the RCP tonight winning 19-5 v Aberdeen. Aberdeen are new to the league and found the going tough against the young Porty Team but to their credit they never stopped swimming. With a couple of regular players unavailable it allowed Maksim Livingstone and Max Rait from the U16 team to play in this U18 league.

4 goals from Captain Clayton Woods in the first quarter, 1 for Ben Scott and 1 for Esme McGregor along with great defence and swimming from Jodie Wh...

U18’s show Character in Hard Fought Win

Posted by Portobello ASC on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, In : 98+

The U18’s continued their winning streak with a 15-14 win v Menzieshill at the Olympia Pool on Tuesday night. They started very well  like previous games with powerful shooting from Clayton Woods and excellent goalkeeping from James Gardner meant a 5-3 lead to Portobello at the end of the 1st quarter. However the 2nd period was a poor performance (5-2 loss) as the team seemed to lose their shape, the ball distribution up the pool was poor and James Gardiner was not offered any protection in...

Under 16's continue Porty Winning Way

Posted by Portobello ASC on Sunday, June 7, 2015, In : U16
The U16 team had 2 Scottish National League games at the Royal Commonwealth Pool last night against Menzieshill and Stirling and managed 2 convincing wins to get their league challenge back on track. The team lost their opening 2 matches of the league to Aberdeen and Dunfermline before getting a win v Forth Vally and now with 2 wins last night this makes it 3 on the bounce for this young team.

In the first game v Menzieshill the Portobello team won 20-11 with goals from Gregor Turner (2), Esme...

Hat-trick of victories for Porty U18 team!

Posted by Portobello ASC on Thursday, June 4, 2015,
Following on from victory in Stirling on Sunday and an opening season win against Forth Valley this seemed to be, on paper, the toughest test so far in the Scottish National Leagues for the Portobello U18 team. However, from the start of this game Portobello were never in any serious danger from a normally mobile Warrender team that seemed to lack fire power or, was it the well organised Portobello defence and some outstanding saves by James Gardner that stopped Warrender in their tracks?!

Porty under 18's (98+) win 1st game of the season!

Posted by Portobello ASC on Monday, May 25, 2015, In : 98+
The 2015 season for the 98+ Scottish National League campaign got underway last Saturday at the Royal Commonwealth Pool against Forth Valley. Portobello were without Ben Scott who was at GB Junior trials and Carys Hardy who was representing Scotland Senior Ladies at the 8 Nations tournament in Dublin. This did however mean a debut at this level for Maksim Livingstone who despite being only 13 had 3 chances to score a debut goal but unfortunately for Maksim none found the net, on this occasion...

The men’s team finished 4th in the British Water Polo League consolidating the same position as they had in the 2012-13 season with a similar set of results, albeit with an improved defensive performance. Having qualified for the Super 5 competition from the result in first half of the season, Portobello fought out close games with the other four teams: winning three, drawing one and losing four games. The team is now preparing for the British Championships which will be played over 2 weeke...

Positive signs despite loss against Manchester

Posted by Portobello ASC on Saturday, October 26, 2013, In : BWPL
Match report from today's encounter against Manchester by coach Alan Anderson:

Our first game of the super 5s turned out to be a close encounter, with only 8 players due to the date of the event being changed and players already committed and illness meant we only had 8 players, hardly ideal to play the team who finished top after the first round of matches.

A good controlled start, strong defense and positive attack saw us lead 4-1 before ending up 6-4 lead at half time. A few lapses on concen...

In other words, just three months after capacity crowds cheered inspiring performances by our lads against the best in the world at the London Olympics, GB men’s international water polo appears to be dead in the water.

In an intriguing weekend of water polo at Crystal palace, all sides in this years super 5s league ended up with one win and one loss meaning only goal difference separates all teams in the league.

Portobello played Bristol on Saturday 10th Nov and it was a slightly frustrating for the Porty boys who stuttered for the first 3 periods. They did lift the tempo in the last period but by this point Britsol had gained a substantial lead which was too great to overcome. Portobello travelled to Sheffield this weekend to play their next 2 matches in the BWPL Division 1 matches. They would face Manchester on Saturday followed by Lancaster on Sunday.

It was a poor start for Porty against Manchester, going down 5 - 1 in the first period due to several counter attacks from the English side. Porty then went on to win the final three quarters and they were level pegging midway through the 4th. But Manchester took the win 11 goals to Porty's 10.
